At the end of last year Flare Lighting provided the lighting design and realisation for the ‘Mariah Carey Switch On’ event at Westfield London.

The brief was to provide a two stage ‘glitz and glamour’  lighting solutions.  The first stage was to create a spectacular entrance for Mariah on the external promenade of Westfield.  The second to provide lighting design for the main stage where Mariah would present from.

The promenade lighting incorporated a number of different elements.  Star Flowers, VL300 spots, VL2500 washes and Colour punches were just some of the fixtures used.   Along with the effect lighting there need to be enough face light as she would be on camera at all times.  This was achieved by a two high powered Robert Juliat followspots with strategic placement.

In between the two areas we had tungsten Sun Guns and ‘bashers’ to help the cameras with the otherwise very flat light from the shopping centre.

The stage area needed to have enough punch to get through the high ambient light levels in the centre.  The Alpha Beam 1500 was perfect for the job.  This was complimented with some floor mounted JB Lighting A7 LED heads.  Flare utilised the in house fixtures of VL3000s and Mac 700s to light the Grotto and to augment the effect lighting on the stage.

The event was a huge success and created a massive buzz around the area and indeed the celebrity news.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver organised Jamie’s Big Night Out, a fundraising event for the Fifteen Foundation, at Shoreditch Town Hall in east London.  The entertaiment for the night was provided by Jamie Cullum and his band.

Flare were asked by Imagine Believe Productions to design and realise the Lighting elements for this Gala Dinner which compromised of entrance, reception hallways and main dining space.

The exterior of the building was lit in the ‘fifteen pink’ which was echoed through the Hall ways to the Reception.  The Reception room’s architectural features were highlighted very descrete but punchy Colour Blocks.  The ceiling was treated with a collection of 70 degree ETC Source Fours.

The main Dining room was held in the main auditorium of the Town Hall and was to have Jamie Cullum’s full band performing two sets on the stage.  Flare used VL 2k spots and Mac 600 washes to not only provide the band lighting but to dress the room for dinner too.  There was also a collection of Source Four 50 Deg profile to dapple the room and of course the obligatory pins spot to highlight each table centre.

The beautiful ceiling of the hall was lit from the balcony with both the VL2k spots and some coloured 400w MBI floods.

As backing to the band an array of retro tungsten fittings were used including modified 5k Mole Richardson fresnels.

The event was a huge success and the organisation ended up raising over £200,000.00.

Equipment for this event was supplied by Essential Lighting.
